More than just expressive colour and brushstrokes for me. After years of favouring watercolours and oils, I’ve found myself falling in love with acrylics again. The catalyst has been an incredible instructor who has insisted on looseness, on letting go, but also on the magic of layering, of building depth with complementaries until something unexpected and beautiful emerges.
While painting this pool ring, I couldn’t help but feel a metaphor building with each stroke. This process, this medium, this rediscovery: it has been a life raft. A way of pulling me back up from the depths as I’ve wrestled with who I am in this creative world. I so love art for her way of catching you when you drift. For the way she reminds us of buoyancy and belonging. With the bright pool ring and the shimmering waters, it feels like a reminder that I am still held, still floating, still finding my way.
